About CSF Provence Gard

Our mission is to provide the highest quality confidential support

CANCER SUPPORT FRANCE PROVENCE GARD (CSFPG) is a registered association (loi 1901) No. W302012398, affilliated to CANCER SUPPORT FRANCE, a national French charity offering free, confidential support to English speakers, living in France, diagnosed with cancer, as well as their families and carers.

CSF began life in 2000 around a kitchen table in the Poitou-Charente. Its founder, Linda Shepherd, was struggling to come to terms with her radiotherapy treatment. A French speaker, Linda nevertheless found she could not express her deepest fears in a foreign language. She discovered other English-speakers with similar problems and started regular meetings in her home. She became aware that it was not only the patient who was being affected by their illness and its treatment, but also partners, family members and friends were struggling too, and so they were invited to join the meetings as well. With the support of her on cologist,Linda advertised the group to offer support more widely and set up Cancer Support France in 2002.

Today the CSF national association supports hundreds of English-speaking cancer patients, has a dedicated training scheme for volunteers who offer active listening, it organises fundraising and activities and liaises with other national and international health organisations. There are 13 affiliated associations of which Cancer Support France Provence Gard is one. Each affilation has a management committee and their own team of skilled Active Listeners, organise social and fundraising events in their region and has extensive local knowledge and contacts.

Cancer Support France Provence Gard was founded in June 2015 to bring support to the English-speaking community living in Bouches du Rhône, Gard and Vaucluse.
